Calliope Creative Testimonials: "The incredible teaching of how to write for the theater in this class has helped me simplify and codify the essentials needed to write a riveting and sharp story. I cannot thank Mr. Stewart enough for his teaching and his always endless knowledge of what makes a theatre piece tick to really find the essence in each of our stories." -Amanda "I’m a freshman in college and I’ve been attending the workshop since 6th grade and I really respect Mr. Stewart. All these years, he has taught me so much about acting and everything that goes into acting. He cares a lot about the work that he does and the people that he is doing it with." -Kayla "I enjoy Mr. Stewart’s workshop group because it’s an outlet for me to express my creative side. Aside from creating my own plays, I am able to learn different writing techniques, stage jargon, and the skillset to direct and produce a play." -Taylor "Overall, I learned more about my potential, and I received a mentor figure that can advise me in life's attributes. This program helped me write more profoundly, develop patience, and open my mind to more innovative ideas. I love the idea of being mysterious and with the help of Mr. Stewart I’ve been able to keep the audience guessing." -Leah "By attending these classes my foundational writing skills have drastically improved, It’s also shown me the importance of writing with purpose." -Hayley

ABOUT US

Calliope Creative Foundation was founded in the year of 2001 for the purpose of introducing and exposing young aspiring artists to the various disciplines of theater, and to prepare them for the professional theater, television, and film industries--as well as prepare them
for the highly competitive world that they will inherit.

MISSION AND BACKGROUND

Calliope Creative Foundation’s mission is to introduce and expose young black artists to the various disciplines of professional theater. Considering Calliope is committed to the ideal of internationalism, its doors are open to aspiring artists, irrespective of race, class, religion, or gender. The organization is also devoted to lending its support to launching the professional careers of its trainees, referred to as "Apprentices" in the theater community. Calliope will stage plays written, directed, performed, and produced by Apprentices--and when opportunities present, cast Apprentices in its two professional theater productions during annual seasons.
Our vision is to establish the first black summer stock theater festival in the nation.
