Calliope offers three Theatre Related Programs
PROFESSIONAL THEATER PRODUCTIONs
PROFESSIONAL THEATER PRODUCTION: Designed to stage professional theatre productions. Calliope stages two professional theater productions in its annual program year. Most recently, Calliope produced "Slow Dance on the Killing Ground", written by the late William Hanley (his Broadway debut in 1962), staged at Riverside Church.
IMMIGRANT PLAYWRITING PROGRAM
IMMIGRANT PLAYWRITING WORKSHOP Program: Introduces and exposes young aspiring Caribbean / African Diaspora artists to the fundamentals of playwriting. The pace and content of the curriculum takes into consideration the challenges the immigrants have in adjusting to speaking and writing in English. Their short one-act plays are showcased during Calliope's annual Dramatic Reading Series as part of Calliope’s annual Summer Stock Theater Festival.
APPRENTICE PLAYWRITING PROGRAMS
APPRENTICE PLAYWRITING Program: Introduces and expose young aspiring Black-American artists to the fundamentals of playwriting, acting, directing, and producing. The plays written by the "Apprentices" chronicle their experiences in society. The Apprentices' one-act plays are showcased during Calliope's Dramatic Readings, and staged during the annual Summer Stock Festival.
